The goal of this conference is to provide attendees with the most updated information, which will help them in treating their patients using the most advanced and up-to-date procedures. As a result of participating in this activity, the learner should be able to identify and define the key terms used in CME.

Objective for lecture #1:  Identify the conditions that interrupt the natural flow of blood through the heart’s valves and chambers; increase knowledge of minimally-invasive techniques and comprehensive range of treatments.

Objective for lecture #2:  Identify the characteristics of an "at-risk" athlete; examine the cardiac causes of sudden death and identify how to most effectively diagnose them; analyze recent advances in pre-participation screening and its evolution.

Objective for lecture #3:  Discuss the effect of plant-based diets on established heart disease; identify the ability of plant-based diets to prevent heart disease; recognize the role of fats in heart disease.

Objective for lecture #4: Implement strategies into the perioperative care plan to decrease complications, hasten recovery and shorten hospital stay.

Objective for lecture #5: Understand the role of ectopic lipid in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome; understand the molecular mechanisms of lipid-induced liver and muscle insulin resistance; understand the role of muscle insulin resistance in the pathogenesis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and dyslipidemia.

Objective for lecture #6: Identify a key gene mutation that can trigger acute lymphoblastic leukemia and several other types of cancer.
